SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures how well a product helps protect skin from UVB/UVA rays, which contribute to sunburn, skin cancers, and, less directly, visible signs of sun damage.  

Think of SPF as a measure of a sunscreen’s filtering power, not a timer. It indicates how much more UVB/UVA energy your skin can absorb before burning compared to unprotected skin. Higher SPF provides greater UVB/UVA protection, although all SPFs filter more than 90% of UVB/UVA rays and help reduce the risks of skin damage. SPF 15 filters about 93% of UVB/UVA rays, SPF 30 about 97%, and SPF 50 about 98%. 

No. Regardless of SPF level, it's important to reapply sunscreen as directed and follow other sun protection measures.  

Daily sun protection is recommended, even on cloudy days, because UV rays can reach your skin year-round.
